Devlog: May 2022


Hi ya'll! Happy spring!

For the last couple of weeks I've taken a small break from the UT fandom. No serious reason, I just got into an old one and couldn't focus on UT for a minute. I'm back now and I'm excited to return!

Before my mini-break, as mentioned before we got to 1,500+ subscribers on GameJolt! Thank you all so much! With the demo planned to come out later this year I'm curious to see how much more we'll get then!

Now for a progress update:

Art: I've finished the tileset for the Lost Kingdom.

I've changed up Bloodwen's design as well as animated her idle pose. (More on her later)

Code: I've made some progress. The first puzzle has been implemented, a core behavior of two characters has been programed. (Not elaborating because of spoilers)

Next Up: re-create the cutscenes, add in the changed dialogue, code the battles

As mentioned in March the game had gotten to a play test build but I quickly realized the story and gameplay didn't connect of flowed well. Because of this, I've expanded the demo to be twice as long and restructured events.

The Demo can now be divided in three chunks:

  1. Journey to the Lost Kingdom
  2. The Human town Reporost
  3. The Lost Kingdom Adventure

My main goal right now is to finish the first chunk of the demo before tackling the rest. Assuming I don't come across any major changes or issues, I can get this done in a month or two. I expect once that chunks finished, the rest of the demo will come easier for me to build.

Now for the released demo itself. I should explain by what exactly it is. The demo's purpose is to prove the game's concepts as well as garner attention to build a bigger team. It is a proof of concept. This demo will not be final nor "finished." It will however be playable and give you a sense of the final product, albeit, with missing/placeholder audio and art.

This demo covers the first third of the first Story Section. There's 3 Story Sections and the game will be have a major release for each.

I've shown Bloodwen before but I hadn't talked about her yet. Wendy is a Valais Blacknose Sheep and she's on Angel's main characters. Since she's an OC, I can't really talk about her much without getting into spoiler territory. I hope you enjoy her design ^_^
